The Dorosti Dental team has started using Onset® –and patients are reporting improved experiences with anesthesia. We asked Dr. Dorosti to tell us more about this …
“Onset® Sodium Bicarbonate is anesthesia buffering system Dr. Turk and I started using recently and we love it.
The mechanism of action is simple for numbing. Our body pH is about 7.4. The anesthetics we use are acidic. With Onset®, we are able to raise the pH of the anesthetic by adding a base, sodium bicarbonate, same as the fizzing bubbles in soda pop, to raise the pH and increase the rate of action of the anesthetic. Patients become numb in as little as 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
Many patients also report the sting of the injection seems to be significantly less.
But what Dr. Turk and I love the most about Onset® is that, it helps when we are having trouble getting the patient numb—especially then they have an infection. An infection lowers the pH of the surrounding tissue significantly. Because the uptake is quicker we can get profound anesthesia in an otherwise difficult time.
There is no additional cost. Dr. Turk and I determine its use on a case by case basis.”
