Root Canal Treatment (Endodontic Therapy)

Root canal therapy is performed when deep decay or trauma affects the nerve in the center of the tooth, causing extreme pain. Root canal therapy is the only way to get out of pain, short of pulling the tooth when symptoms of severe, constant pain, swelling or infection coming from a tooth. The procedure involves removing the nerve and blood supply inside the canals of the tooth with small files. The canals are cleaned, shaped, disinfected and filled with a rubber like material to seal the tooth. A crown is recommended after root canal therapy to seal and protect the compromised tooth.
